Healthcare Justice is a UU Value.
The Unitarian Universalists for a Just Economic Community (UUJEC) and the Unitarian Universalists for Social Justice (UUSJ) hosted a three-day conference for UUs to learn and share best practices for healthcare justice and advocacy in Washington DC. Our partnership enabled UU’s to get involved with the latest campaigns against inequality, and visit lawmakers to influence positive change. UU’s from 16 different states traveled to DC to gather in solidarity and defense of disenfranchised and marginalized members of our national community.

- 2017 Reversing Inequality Conference. Cherry Blossoms, Comfort Zones and Health Care for All, by Rev Lucy Hitchcock
Dragons, parrots, fish, stars and stripes cavorted about the Washington Monument. People of all ages and colors, string in hand. An orchard of blooming cherry trees in Foggy Bottom, pink petals fluttering upward in the breezes like the kites. Easily a million strollers on The Mall - joyful meanderers, school break classes, families buying Thai, Mexican and Filipino lunches from food trucks. Celebration not protest...

- 2016 Annual Meeting. A talk given by Rev. Dr. David Breeden
“Revolt of the Struggling Classes” Well, we at UUs for a Just Economic Community can say to our fellow UUs and to America, “We told you so!” We told you that the smoke-and-mirrors economic policies that both US political parties have employed for years would one day create a monster. Not only a monster such as the financial meltdown of 2008, but the sort of demagogues that appear in times of extreme economic distress.

- 2015 Boston Conference Sermon by Rev. Kelly WAJ
"Get a Tank" 43 years ago, the social activist and historian Howard Zinn began an address with a few choice words to his audience about where he was coming from philosophically; words I find fitting to share as I begin my own remarks to you this morning.

- 2015 Evanston Conference Policy Brief: Tax Fairness and UUJEC by Chuck Collins.

If the 1 percent paid income taxes at the same actual effective rate as they did in 1961, the U.S. Treasury would receive an additional $231 billion a year. Taxes on higher income and wealth reached their zenith in the mid-1950s...

- 2015 Evanston Conference Sermon by Rev. Dr. David Breeden
"A (Post)-Theological Grounding for Economic Justice Work" Think for a moment about the costs and benefits of stealing an entire hemisphere. Sure, there are costs: murdering several hundred million people isn’t cheap, but think of the value that accrued to what we nowadays call the Eurozone, beginning in 1492 and continuing to today...

"The Opposite of Poverty is not Wealth. It is Justice"
Most people have heard the Groucho Marx line, “I wouldn’t want to belong to a club that would accept me.” Did you know that Groucho said this as the result of a specific event. His daughter had gone to a country club with a group of friends to swim in the pool. The Marxs were not members of the club, and his daughter, Melinda, was not allowed to swim in the pool.
