    Workshop seeks solutions on disparities in Ventura County

A resident of the Port Hueneme/south Oxnard area, Johnny Garcia, 16, has seen firsthand what happens when a person follows the wrong path.

"When I was growing up, my best friend and I liked soccer and music. But now he's turned to drugs, and I haven't talked to him for a long time. It actually happened in my life that someone was influenced by something bad," said Garcia, who noted the disparity between different neighborhoods in Oxnard. "Some are very safe and others are not."

Garcia was one of more than 100 people who gathered Saturday at the Ventura County Community Foundation building in Camarillo to address inequity in the local economy — where some are thriving in expensive homes, while others struggle to keep a roof over their family's heads. Re
